“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
― Anaïs Nin
That day came from me some time during the summer of 2011. I had accomplished nearly everything that I had set out to do and I began feeling so unfulfilled with what I was doing. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the work that I was doing but there’s just something about not being challenged that gets to me. I like to solve problems. I like to meet things in the face and, though hard, do it anyway. I love a sense of accomplishment … I’ve always been that way.
I’m writing this because I know it’s the time of year when you start looking back on your life wondering what you did and lots of times you aren’t able to see all of the strides you’ve made because you’re too busy looking at others. So let’s do a fun exercise in rewarding ourselves at the end of this year. If you can check off some of these, you certainly had a great year, and if you haven’t, you are already set for a goal list for 2014. Read More…

As the summer starts to wind down and I’ve seen family members and been a few places and soaked up the sun, I can’t help but think about the fact that the Summer is coming to an end. Once we get through a potentially HOT August, September will be here and, just like that, Daisy Duke season is over … WOMP! So that’s why I say NOW is the time to start planning for your winter vacation (that’s what I do, anyway). I typically take a December girls trip to somewhere nice and sunny.

“I was having a meeting with our lovely blog editor (hey Kim!) and we were talking about our weekend plans. At the top of Kim’s plans, she mentioned that was going to be sleeping in on Saturday morning. I gasped! “NEVER SLEEP IN!” Kim looked at me in shock like most people do when I say that because well … it’s Saturday! Everyone sleeps in on the weekends, right? Wrong. If Myleik likes it, we love it. While the boss lady has been tiptoeing all over the States and beyond, she’s picked up a few new favs. Check ‘em out.
1. “Avalanche” by Quadron
This is just an absolutely AMAZING album. It’s worth buying. It’s worth a listen. I just love her voice and the great production. And there’s a track with Kendrick Lamar – “Better Off” … AMAZE!
2. iBooks App
I know I’m SO late to the party with this. I’ve always known that you could buy books and read them on the iPad but I stopped toting my Pad around nearly a year ago. While I was on vacation, this woman I met told me about this MUST READ book and I kept wondering how I was going to read it right away. Ummmm … iBooks! I downloaded to the iPhone immediately. I thought reading books on my phone would drive me nuts. It does NOT! Now I can have my books with me all of the time and read them whenever because I ALWAYS have my phone. Joy! Read More…

Myleik’s box braids are awesome. Check out how she maintains one of summer’s hottest styles.
I’ve been braiding hair since I was around eight years old. I would practice and practice until I learned how to get them perfect. Since the Summer is right around the corner, I figured I’d put in long box braids to grow out my short cut and really just be able to run around and mix my work with a few beach vacays!

A good protective style is perfect for the summer when you’re looking to try something new. Myleik’s been wearing a fabulous curly weave from the Heat Free Hair brand.
“I’ve been having a really good time with the Heat Free Hair. I am wearing two bundles of “For Kinks” in 16 inches. I had the weave installed by Charmel at High Maintenance in Atlanta and had it cut by my hairstylist, Danielle Carrington at “Like The River” salon in Atlanta. Danielle gave it a “point cut” and put some shape around the face (bang area). Having a GOOD CUT on any head of hair is so important.” – Myleik
