KEN’S QUARTER-LIFE KRISIS: MY ST. JUDE STORY

CB-KEN

My St. Jude Story.

Victoria and I visited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital last weekend for their annual Celebration of Hope. I have been to Memphis previously to tour the hospital, and was expecting the conference to be a sort of extended tour. I was in for way more than I bargained for!  Read More…

KEN’S QUARTER-LIFE KRISIS: “CAN’T NEVER COULD”

krisis

Can’t Never Could.

A self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive feedback between belief and behavior.

Last Friday, Myleik tasked Victoria and I with an exercise in innovating. Creating something from nothing. Our only instructions were to create a watercolor painting…that’s it.

We set the mood with music and a sip of wine. It would have been an ideal end to the workweek for most. I, of course, had to complicate things.  Read More…

KEN’S QUARTER-LIFE KRISIS: “GIRLFRIENDS”

CB-GIRLFRIENDS

Recently, I have been working on my relationships.

Relationships are tricky, whether you’re pre, post or mid-Krisis. They became harder for me in my twenties (especially during and after college) when I had some difficulty maintaining friendships.

At the time I pawned this off as being the result of growing up and growing apart. As people continued to enter my life I tended to focus all of my attention on the new…leaving older relationships untended. I then suffered from a feeling of alienation that I had 100% brought upon myself.  Read More…

Ken’s Quarter-Life Krisis: When You Stop Searching…

cb-whenken

After staring at a blank screen and flashing cursor for what seemed like forever….I still had nothing to say. No messes at work, no boyfriend drama…I haven’t even yelled at anyone in a while.

When I whined to Myleik about my lack of subject matter for this week, she responded with, “Maybe it’s just a life is good blog day.”  Read More…

Ken’s Quarter-Life Krisis: Wedding Bells

cb-bride

Wedding Bells?

I attended my very first bridal shower last weekend. My standard reaction to such occasions is cynicism and mild irritation. The fact that I actually enjoyed myself (and even won a shower game) was a shock to all parties involved.

I have spent my adult life telling myself that, while I do see marriage and a family in my future, these things will happen when they happen. I have never been in a rush and have a number of goals I hope to meet first.

Boy is it hard to maintain such a stance while sipping sangria and nibbling mini-cupcakes stamped with “I do,”all while seated amongst women with sparkly left ring fingers. Read More…

KEN’S QUARTER-LIFE KRISIS: SICK & TIRED

sickandtired

Sick and Tired.

I write to you this week from my bedroom, snuggled under my covers with my laptop on my knees and a cup of hot tea by my side. Yep, I’m home sick.

I must confess this is the first time I have been disappointed to miss a few days at my desk. Strange feeling. I suppose when one finds herself in such a situation it may just be time to make a few changes.  Read More…

Ken’s Quarter-Life Krisis: Bossy

ken-boss

Bossy.

When I walked into work this morning there was a copy of “#GIRLBOSS” by Sophia Amoruso, Founder/CEO of Nasty Gal, on my desk. I can’t express to you how totally appropriate this was given the massive display of “girl bossy-ness” I experienced at the curlBOX x StyleSeat Building Your Brand event here at the office Monday evening.

While I have never been a big fan of the typical 9-5 job situation, I have never considered myself to be a “start your own business” type of gal. I think I may have been converted.  Read More…

Ken’s Quarter-Life Krisis: Take a look. It’s in a Book.

cb-books

Take a Look. It’s in a Book.

I recently had an old friend credit my family for her love of literature. She said I always had my head in a book, forcing her into an “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” situation. Even long after AP tests and SATs, the vocabulary I cultivated while spending late nights crouched in bedroom closets with a paperback and flashlight is still paying off.

To be well read is to have an edge. Whether in the office or among peers, you will be noticed, and not as one of those word-of-the-day subscribers who don’t really know what the word means. As a lifelong bookworm, I have begun to realize just how many benefits there are.
