Ken’s Quarter-Life Krisis: Holiday Affairs

ken3

My holiday vacations of years past have been devoted to days sleeping in and nights bar hopping with whoever happens to be in town.

Well. Guess who’s grown up? I have unintentionally spent the past few weeks having the experiences that I now know are truly vital to a full and happy life.

Many of said experiences are thanks to my lovely boss and curlBOX. Our annual holiday gathering had a spa theme this year. As resident office event planner and host, I must say it was absolutely amazing to have the tables turn and be pampered myself. And when I say pampered; we got the works!  Read More…

KEN’S QUARTER-LIFE KRISIS: OUT WITH A BANG

CB-kens

It’s almost Christmas time! The tree is up, the presents are piling, parties are coming together, and…

I’ve had one of those weeks again. The kind that seem to arrive whenever I feel I’m smooth sailing and all is right with the world. The kind that often sends me into a downward spiral of panic and overthought, and countless mistakes.

Just before I was sucked into the black hole of my neuroticism, I received an email from Myleik with some sage (and clutch) advice: Read More…

Ken’s Quarter-Life Krisis: Tis the Season

kens

This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE time of year. I don’t know if it’s all the mushy family time, the smell of pine, or the cookie fumes…but I’m pretty much all happy camper from November to January.

This week was one of the struggle variety when it came to selecting a blog topic. (I’m beginning to think that happy writers must not work very much.) When Tavia grew tired of my whining, she suggested I focus on thoughtfulness; something she truly excels at and something I am…working on.

I feel that I am always at my best during the holidays, and this translates to my gift giving abilities. According to my “thoughtful instructor,” good doesn’t always translate to thoughtful. (Like I said, I’m working on it…)

While I’m on my quest to adulthood (and the proper gift giving that is obviously required of all grown ups), here are a few pointers I’ve picked up along the way.  Read More…

Ken’s Quarter-Life Krisis: Be Memorable

kenss

“Being forgettable is worse than leaving a bad impression.”-Myleik Teele

Last week I visited Morehouse School of Medicine with Myleik for her speech to the American Medical Women’s Association. I have heard her speak a few times, but was looking forward to the advice she had to give to such an esteemed audience. Future doctors!

The last thing I expected was for her to introduce me as part of her talk, and I was really thrown for a loop when she used me as a positive example. What could I possibly have to teach pre-med students?   Read More…

Ken’s Quarter-Life Krisis: Goals

krisis

It’s no secret that I haven’t always been what you would call an active participant in my own life. I have written previously that I used to simply let life happen to me rather than making what I wanted to happen, happen.

With that being said, although I absolutely LOVE the holidays (my favorite time of year) I have always had negative feelings towards New Years Resolutions. I found them to be silly and trivial. I think this is because neither myself nor anyone else ever keeps them!  Read More…

Ken’s Quarter-Life Krisis: Get in Front of Your Fears

cb-fear

During an office chat the other day Myleik said that she wished she had a crystal ball to show people what is waiting for them on the other side of their fears.

There isn’t much advice Myleik gives that I can say I have already taken for myself. I am happy to say that this is one tip I did take shortly before my start at curlBOX. In fact, it is the very tip that led me here.  Read More…

KEN’S QUARTER-LIFE KRISIS: LIGHTS, CAMERA…

KEN

Lights, Camera….

Last week I had the privilege of filming my first ever curlBOX TV episode! Yes, we filmed an entire episode focused on little ol’ me. And my KRISIS, of course.

I have participated in the production process many times, so I know the ropes. I must say though, it was quite a treat to step in FRONT of the camera for a change! I did have a past life as a broadcast journalist, and putting that hat back on was a pretty amazing feeling.  Read More…

Ken’s Quarter-Life Krisis: Pretty in Pink

kens

So. I had my hair dyed pink last week. And when I say pink I mean pink.

My mother doesn’t like it. My boyfriend is…tolerating (lol). I, however, am in LOVE!

Growing up, my mother would never let me dye my hair. I think I may have had a temporary rinse or something once. While I’m sure she had the best intentions (the health of my hair, negative connotation, etc.), I always resented not having complete control over my appearance.  Read More…

Ken’s Quarter-Life Krisis: “When It Rains, It Pours”

kens

Ever heard the saying, “When it rains it pours?” Well, I can tell you from personal experience that whoever coined that phrase was either genius or having a really bad day.

Why is it that when you’re up you’re up, but one mistake seems to snowball into complete and utter catastrophe?  Read More…
