ken’s quarter-life krisis: just breathe

justbreathe

Our office recently started reading Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose by Tony Hsieh. A very large portion of the book focuses on finding your passion.

I have done a great deal of growing over the past two years. While I am far, far from the girl I was a short time ago, I am nowhere near finished yet. I still don’t know what I really want to be when I grow up and that scares me. It seems the more I focus on discovering what that might be, the further it is from my grasp.

The self discovery and life lessons of your twenties can be so much fun…but the stress and apprehension often associated with the unknown can be crippling.

The lesson? Perhaps this is my year to just be. (Another amazing piece of advice from the boss lady!) My year to get settled into my newfound womanhood.

Don’t get me wrong, this is no excuse to be completely sedentary. There is always room for professional growth and development within my current position, but there is something to be said for taking time to adjust. Just because I haven’t applied for an MBA program, or announced the start of my own business, doesn’t mean nothing is happening behind the scenes.

Everything takes time, especially getting the hang of this “adulting” business. Savings accounts, taxes…hell, I’m still proud when I get to my laundry before I run out of clean underwear. Practice makes perfect, right?

So, what is my next step, you ask? No steps right now. I’m simply catching my breath.
