As the summer starts to wind down and I’ve seen family members and been a few places and soaked up the sun, I can’t help but think about the fact that the Summer is coming to an end. Once we get through a potentially HOT August, September will be here and, just like that, Daisy Duke season is over … WOMP! So that’s why I say NOW is the time to start planning for your winter vacation (that’s what I do, anyway). I typically take a December girls trip to somewhere nice and sunny.
Here are a few tips to get started now:
1. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
You definitely want to go somewhere that has GOOD weather. Think Mexico if you want to lay out on the beach … Think Charleston, SC if you want to go somewhere mild (the temps are around 50 during the winter) OR if you’re in a hot spot already, think about a girls ski trip!
The deals in December are typically really low up until December 20th! We typically do a trip around the 9th or 10th and stay for a week.
3. BUY NOW, SAVE FOR LATER
You can probably book your plane ticket for a little of nothing now (I know … so far in advance but it’s true). Each month from now until then, take care of something for the trip. The tickets are typically cheaper on Tuesdays or Thursdays (Airlines release their sale fares on these days). Once you have your ticket, start nailing down the hotel room. The rates will be great now and if you want to try to work some magic, give them a call and offer to pay more up front for a better rate. My motto has always been: Life is what you negotiate.
Last year we went to Viceroy Riviera Maya. We had a blast. By the end of the year we were looking for something low-key and quiet and that’s what we got.
