Myleik’s box braids are awesome. Check out how she maintains one of summer’s hottest styles.
I’ve been braiding hair since I was around eight years old. I would practice and practice until I learned how to get them perfect. Since the Summer is right around the corner, I figured I’d put in long box braids to grow out my short cut and really just be able to run around and mix my work with a few beach vacays!
MY Braid Essentials:
- I like using 100% Kanekelon Hair (it’s usually $2/pack at the beauty supply). I use about 8-10 packs.
- I use two types of gel to braid – EcoStyler Olive Oil Styling Gel to start the braids and grip the edges and Isoplus Pre-Conditioning Light Gel to keep the braid hair from tangling. The Isoplus is light like water and keeps the hair nice and smooth and you can actually braid faster using it.
- Once I’m done braiding I actually BLOW DRY my braids to smooth out all of the hair.
- After that, I dip them in boiling hot water and baby oil (or any oil really – just a cap full) to seal and shine.
I wash them once per week with My Honey Child Olive You Scalp Cleanser. I condition my braids with whatever I have in my shower and use Mizani Supreme Oil on my scalp (daily) and Carol’s Daughter Macadamia Hold & Control Smoother for my edges.
Easy breezy, huh?
